The First Coat

Pick up your no6 sable brush and load it with clear water being careful to wet within the lines of your drawing. This is to allow the wash that you are about to apply to move and blend smoothly across your paper.

It is important to know how to do this correctly. When you wet your paper, inside your drawing, it should be evenly moist across the inside of the drawing, with no dry patches and no puddles.

Now mix some Yellow Ochre with lots of water. (It should have the consistency of watered down milk.) Apply this mix to the inside of your drawing, again being careful to stay within the lines. Gently use your hairdryer, on it's lowest setting, to dry your leaf. I find that if I feel the leaf with the back of my hand I can tell when it is completely dry.
